Long-legged water bird

This water bird was seen near the Arctic Chalet. Notice the long legs and thin beak, for picking small prey from the water. Nature’s chopsticks.

  1. I believe it is one of the Yellowlegs, but whether Greater or Lesser I can’t really tell. I’d expect there would be more pronounced spots on a Solitary Sandpiper, and more white around the eye, but I can’t say for certain.

  2. Yellowlegs v. solitary sandpiper always bugs me. I picked sandpiper in this case because I’d expect a yellowlegs to have more banding on the belly.

  3. Have you ever thought about creating an ebook or guest authoring on other websites? I have a blog based on the same subjects you discuss and would love to have you share some stories/information. I know my audience would appreciate your work. If you are even remotely interested, feel free to send me an email.
