History on display: The traditional North at North Mart

There is a display at North Mart which shows historic photos of Inuvik.

Among them are photos of traditional foods being prepared: beluga whale fat left to dry on a beach and a woman scraping a sealskin.

Amazing to think how traditional life was completely different than modern life.

  1. hmm…why is there all of a sudden a huge media presence in regards to women preparing seal skins?
It’s a good thing that protective barrier is there!

  2. there are many old photos there, but these aren’t more than 15 years old.

That top one is of a whale camp and this bottom one looks like it was done during a gathering, like the 1995 northern games demo.
