Bodywork is expensive in Inuvik and parts are scarce; therefore, you see a lot of beat-up cars.

I love how your blog brings back memories! When I was living down there I put a few dings (and worse) in my car, causing the (Native) guy I was seeing to say that my car was getting “suitably indianized.” LOL

Reminds me of the comedian Mitch Hedberg: “I think they should make cars out of Nerf foam…there would be no more accidents…just.. unexpected bouncing…”

Nerf foam is a good idea from an accident perspective. It would make for difficult driving in windy weather, though, and they would get HORRIBLE mileage on rainy days.
